Foreword

Welcome to IDFA Project Space 2021. We are proud to welcome you all, 23 promising filmmakers from all over the world, and to celebrate the narratives, images, creative visions, and challenges that you are bringing with your projects. While IDFA has become an important marketplace, a yearly event not to be missed for the international industry, it is just as important to endorse and empower filmmakers and support them in growing their careers. For IDFA's Filmmaker Support Department, the key is to create a playground, a free space for independent filmmakers, with a focus on the nurturing of talent and the exchange between talent and expertise. Last year, the COVID-19 crisis forced us to adapt our activities, but it also created the opportunity to explore new possibilities and formats for our programs. Out of this challenge, IDFA Project Space was born. The program has filmmakers, their projects, and their needs at its core, and through a flexible structure it aims to cater as much as possible to each individual project. The purpose is to inspire, challenge, and support you on the journey to bringing your project a step further. In the coming months, we have planned a range of sessions where you will be joined by filmmakers who are connected to us, either through the IDFA Bertha Fund or as alumni of our training activities. This way, we aim to support and inspire an even larger group than before. We hope the coming months will offer you experiences that will last you a lifetime and that your time at IDFA Project Space will help develop your creativity and passion for filmmaking. Hopefully, IDFA will welcome you to future editions of the festival with the film that was developed here at IDFA Project Space. We wish you all a productive and inspiring program.
